Keeping it Geekly - Hello and welcome to the show, Dominic. I appreciate you taking the time to come by and chat about Heart Eaters and your creative journey as a writer. How are you doing today?

Dominic Prince - Hey! Thank you for having me! I’m doing great, pumped to chat about my stories.

KiG - I see that you have several credits in writing comics. Was becoming a writer something you always had pictured growing up, or was it a journey that you stumbled into?

DP - I’ve always been a creative person growing up. At a young age, I would find myself writing stories that I would try to adapt to film. The earliest script I remember writing was a Matrix sequel that involved Neo, Trinity, and their kids. It was as ridiculous as it sounds. I would continue to make homemade movies with my friends and comics. But really fell in love with writing music. That’s where Heart Eaters was born.

KiG - Congratulations on a successful Kickstarter campaign for Heart Eaters back in July! Can you tell us a bit about the inspiration behind this story? Also, I am a big fan of the title.

DP - Thank you, I appreciate that! It’s funny the original name was so lame, i was watching Saving Silverman one day and the idea of a horror story that revolved around a punk rock band in a similar situation popped up in my head. I quickly wrote a story that had myself and my two best friends as the main characters. From the beginning the story was always the band get broken up by a vampire, I just couldn’t have imagined the outcome that Adam put together.

KiG - There were some really fun and pure moments between the punk rock trio outside of the villainous girlfriend. How much of this book is inspired by real-life moments?

DP -I wouldn’t necessarily say any outside events influenced the story as a whole. Life in general was the biggest factor. One moment we are single guys playing in a punk rock band. The next we are all married, living in separate states, and seeing each other every few years. The evil girlfriend is more of a metaphor for the distractions of life and how we all eventually grow in separate directions.

KiG - What did it look like behind the scenes working on Heart Eaters with artist Adam Fix? How did the script-to-artist process work between you two?

DP - Adam was/is amazing to work with. We have a mile-long text thread with all of our script concepts and changes. I was lucky enough to spend a day with Adam recently at a convention. That just fueled our creative minds even further. We would go page by page, talk layout, and he would send roughs over within a few hours. We’d make changes in those moments before moving on. It’ll be hard to work with someone other than Adam in the future; we are a team now.

KiG - Will Heart Eaters be an ongoing series, or what does the future hold for Billy, Joey, and Sal?

DP - As of right now, issue two is being paneled. I’m not fully done writing it yet. I have been working on a few other projects, and I’ve neglected to find the ending I like for issue two. My plan is for it to be at least a 5-issue story. With an ending that could lead to more stories later on.

KiG - What other projects are you currently working on? Is there anything coming up in the future that readers can look forward to?

DP - I’m working on a lot at the moment. I’m trying to find my balance between work and writing. But I have three different novels I’m writing. I have eight other comic book stories I’m writing. And I just started playing music live again. So along with being a father and husband, I stay busy.

KiG - Where can readers find you to stay up to date with your work?

DP - You can find me on Instagram @domprincewrites and TikTok @heroes_get_remembered

KiG - Thank you so much for swinging by again, Dominic. I hope you have had time to recover from promoting the Kickstarter, and we can’t wait to see more from you in the future!

DP - Thank you so much for having me. I can’t thank you enough. Looking forward to bringing more stories your way!
